Call for Volunteers!

Maker Expo is organized and run entirely by volunteers. We have a wide range of opportunities available mostly around Expo weekend, but we’ll have a few pre-event opportunities as well as we gear up to June.

Your time commitment will typically be 4-5 hours during the event (in shifts), with a 1/2 hour training session held a few days prior. You’ll be able to sign up for specific roles and schedules closer to the event — right now we just need to know who’s willing to give us a hand!

Volunteers will receive a Maker Expo volunteer t-shirt, as well as food and drink during the event. The Maker Expo organizing team is committed to making the day fun for everyone and that includes our volunteers! A past survey of volunteers indicated that 97% would volunteer with us again.

If you can spare some time to help us make 2018 our best Maker Expo ever, please sign up using the button below:

2018 Volunteer Roles

Volunteer Training Sessions for 2018 @ The Aud

  • Thursday May 31st @ 7PM
  • Friday June 1st @ 7PM

Talks / Workshops

Talks: We’re going to have a speaker series at Maker Expo this year. As a Talks Volunteer you will help guide visitors and answer questions about the talks, as well as, help the emcee facilitate the speaker series.

Workshops: We’re running a couple workshops that will need extra hands. If you want to get creative, and work closely with guests, and make stuff, this is the job for you.

Greeters / General

Greeters: We want guests to feel immediately at home at Maker Expo. Greeters help make that happen by milling about the entrances to the event, welcoming and directing visitors and answering general questions about the event.

General volunteers will be assigned to specific sections of the event and will be on hand to help both visitors and exhibitors. This may involve supervising an exhibit for a few minutes while the exhibitor grabs a bite to eat, or answering general questions like, “where are the washrooms?”

Set up / Tear Down

Would you like to volunteer with Maker Expo but prefer not to deal with the public? We need lots of help transforming The Aud prior to the event, then putting it back the way we found it afterwards.

Set up: Friday, June 1st from 7pm-9pm AND/OR Saturday, June 2nd from 9am-11am.
Tear down: Sunday, June 3rd from 5pm-7pm.
