HOW TO BUILD UP MAKER SPACES AND UNDERTAKE MAKING-ACTIVITIES WITH CHILDREN AT HOME
Vikas, Artash (Grade 6) and Arushi (Grade 3) are a maker family and co-founders of HotPopRobot.com. Vikas worked with the United Nations in New York, Geneva and Delhi on environment and development issues for 12 years. He left the United Nations to start his maker-family enterprise “HotPopRobot.com” with his kids to foster discussions on Space, Science, and Technology in everyday conversation.
For the Nath Family, making starts from home, where they believe families should focus on building things together. Vikas, Artash and Arushi, constantly build and repair things at home, and as a result, learn more about – planning, research, measuring, and engineering, computing, learning to collaborate, and asking questions! These are lifelong skills which will inspire boys and girls to develop interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
In this talk, the Nath Family will discuss how making things is easy. It does not require any specific skills except willingness to learn new things together – whether it is how to hammer nails or learning a new programming language. Learning happens best when the starting point is curiosity followed by creativity. Get ready to be inspired!
